Aquifer Test Quick Tour

Creating a New Pumping Test

Once the well location and well geometry information has been entered, you can create either a new pumping test (or slug test) by selecting Test/Create Pumping Test from the top menu bar.

The following window will appear prompting you to provide a name for the pumping test and select which of the wells is the pumping well.

Once you name the pumping test and select the pumping well, you press the [OK] button to load the Pumping Test data input screen as shown in the figure below. Note that the name of the pumping test is indicated in the Project Navigation Tree on the left-hand side of the screen.

The Pumping Test data input screen contains two types of information:

  1. Descriptive information about the pumping test
  2. Pumping well discharge rate information

The descriptive information is mostly used as a reference (although the saturated aquifer thickness value is required if you are using the Moench analysis method).

If you are using a constant pumping rate, you simply enter a single value. If you are using a variable pumping rate, you can enter the pumping rate vs. time data in the table provided and it will be plotting on the adjacent graph (this data can also be cut-and-pasted from a spreadsheet or a text file). For variable pumping rates, a weighted average will be calculated and used for the analysis methods that do not accommodate variable pumping rates.
